Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
